Swarco subsidiary McCain has appointed former US Department of Transportation (US DoT) ITS Joint Program Office (JPO) leader, Mike Schagrin, program manager, connected and autonomous vehicles. He will direct the company’s connected and automated vehicle (CAV) effort.
The CAV programme also includes vehicle to infrastructure and intelligent infrastructure offerings for business, academic and deployment activities.

BYD supplies electric buses to Toronto Transit Commission
BYD Canada will deliver ten 40-foot, electric buses to support the Toronto Transit Commission’s (TTC’s) commitment to establishing a zero-emission fleet by 2040.
According to BYD, TCC intends to purchase only emission-free buses from 2025.
Ted Dowling, BYD Canada’s vice president, says: “These first ten buses alone will mean a carbon reduction of 700 Metric tons every year.”
PTV opens office in Warsaw to help transport and logistics customers
PTV has opened an office in Warsaw, Poland, with the stated aim of providing a local port of call for customers in transportation and logistics. The central and eastern Europe office will be run by newly appointed managing directors Peter Möhl and Martyna Abendrot.

Scania and RATP to upgrade Ouagadougou’s bus system
In Burkina Faso’s capital city Ouagadougou, Scania and RATP are working with the West Africa country’s government to provide a modern and efficient bus system. Through the two-year agreement, 460 buses and 90 coaches will be added to the network.

BMW subsidiary ReachNow has integrated car sharing and ride hailing within its app in a bid to provide members in Seattle with an alternative to car ownership.

Chinese bike sharing company Ofo is scaling back its US operations and has laid off employees from multiple departments. The move, according to a report by Quartz, will allow the company to refocus on markets in a bid to become profitable.

Hyperloop TT to build route in China
Hyperlopp Transportation Technologies will implement a Hyperloop system in China which will start with a 10km commercial agreement at Tongren, a prefecture-level city in eastern Guizhou Province. Hyperloop says the system will help connect the region to the rest of the world.
The project stems from an agreement with the tourist attraction investor Tongren Transportation & Tourism Investment.

Autoliv joins OSCCAR future automotive safety project
Automotive safety systems company Autoliv has joined safety initiative OSCCAR, part of the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research project.
