Highways company Island Roads will install 40 energy-efficient Parkeon Strada Rapide parking terminals as part of a system upgrade across the Isle of Wight. The solar-powered technology is intended to replace 139 of Island Roads’ terminals by 2020. David Wallis, Island Roads’ operations and maintenance manager, says: “The new meters will be more reliable than the models they are replacing, some of which were nearing the end of their serviceable life and required an increasing amount of maintenance.”

An expanded US bike share scheme in Boston will replace the city’s Hubway system and offer residents in four municipalities a free ride day on 18 May. The launch stems from a six-year agreement between Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts and the Metro Boston public bike share system. Electric vehicle (EV) firm Poterra has released three high-power charging options which it claims will make a completely electric bus fleet in North America more achievable. The new products are intended to be compatible with J1772 CCS plug-in, as well as J3105 inverted and roof-mounted overhead charging systems. Auto manufacturer Jaguar will make 50 of its fully-electric I-Pace vehicles available to passengers travelling to and from London’s Heathrow airport this summer. Transport design firm STV has been chosen as lead designer for the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority’s (MBTA’s) $1.3bn Green Line Light Rail Extension (GLX).
