Provider of shared light electric vehicle (LEV) services Scoot Networks (Scoot) has added a full fleet of electric bicycles (e-bikes) to its service to meet the needs of residents in San Francisco who are seeking more affordable and valuable transit options. Users can access the bicycles via the same app used for Scoot’s shared electric scooters. The e-bikes come with an electric motor to make pedalling easier for terrains such as hills, but riders are required to pedal to reach the maximum speed of 20mph.

Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG) and ViaVan, a joint venture between Mercedes-Benz Vans and Via have launched a two-year project to create an on-demand ridesharing service in Berlin with routes that can be adapted by its passengers, in Spring 2018. The pilot aims to reduce congestion through deploying 50 Mercedes-Benz vehicles with plans to expand the fleet to 300. Public acceptance of the scheme will also be assessed. Each journey starts and ends at a virtual stop which is shared with other passengers.

Manufacturer of anti-ram vehicle barriers Gibraltar has supplied over 800 bollards to the Las Vegas Boulevard to protect pedestrians from errant vehicles. The Canadian Vehicle Manufacturers Association’s (CVMA’s) president Mark Nantais has stated that Quebec’s Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) regulations “may result in unintended consequences for consumers, automobile dealers, industry and ultimately, Quebec's economy,” in response to the new strategy introduced by the province’s government. Grand River Transit (GRT) has awarded New Flyer Industries Canada (NFI) with a contract for 39 Xcelsior clean diesel forty-foot, heavy-duty buses, and nine Xcelsior clean diesel forty-foot, bus rapid transit (BRT) heavy-duty buses.
