In an Australian first, free wireless internet technology will be rolled out on all new Queensland Rail city trains from later this year. Nissan and Daimler to produce engines together in North America

Fourth patent related to usage-based insurance
US company Progressive Insurance has received a fourth patent for system technologies used with its optional pay-as-you-drive insurance programme, a usage-based form of car insurance. U.S. Patent No. 8,090,598 relates, in part, to producing a driver safety score based on monitored driving data. Progressive’s usage-based insurance (UBI) scheme, Snapshot, is available in 39 US states and the District of Columbia. It creates a personalised car insurance discount based on customers’ driving habits.

Azure Dynamics delivers 1000th Balance hybrid electric truck

DB orders 90 Bombardier units for Frankfurt area
Bombardier Transportation has received an order, worth US$648 million, for 90 electric multiple units of the 430 series commuter trains from Deutsche Bahn Regio. DB Regio won a European-wide tender from the Rhein-Main-Verkersverbund (RMV) in November 2011, securing the transportation contract for the Rhein-Main rapid transit network.
