Based in England, Red Fox is a profitable and growing provider of automatic vehicle detection and classification (AVDC) software to the tolling industry. Speaking to the Intertraffic Daily News in Amsterdam, Quarterhill CEO Chuck Myers said: “They’re a natural fit. Generally, you buy companies for the people – you don’t necessarily buy them for the technology.” But in this case, he says, Red Fox’s vehicle classification tech is going to be increasingly important in the industry, dovetailing with Quarterhill’s increasing focus on technology “as a differentiator in the market”.

AVDC is responsible for the detection, classification and tracking of a vehicle as it enters and exits a tolling facility. Red Fox's Quantum software platform can process captured data from both Lidar and in-pavement sensors, giving it unparalleled accuracy and placing it at the forefront of advanced AVDC solutions available in the market.

"The Red Fox transaction met both our strategic and financial criteria for an acquisition, and we are pleased to welcome their team to Quarterhill," concluded Myers.
