Traffic data collection is a key topic for cities and mobility digitalisation. It is predicted that some 70 per cent of the world’s population will live in a city by 2050. That is why cities are hurrying up to optimise population flows and provide efficient means of transport.

Our cities are becoming smarter and faster every day, and as the modern city evolves so does its transportation offerings.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is already making significant differences in day-to-day transportation management operations across the US, according to emerging technology experts at the recent virtual ITS World Congress. The panellists, brought together by Siemens Mobility’s ITS Digital Lab in Austin, Texas, encouraged transportation departments and public agencies to investigate ways AI and machine learning can make operations more efficient or help them develop and implement actionable decisions in real time.

As congestion and transportation issues continue to impact cities around the world, metropolitan areas are looking for solutions to help solve these issues. Mexico City is one of those cities wanting to solve its congestion problem by integrating a number of ITS technologies to help manage the city’s Infovial road information system.

Intercomp, manufacturer of portable vehicle weighing and measurement products, has announced the selection of its Weigh In Motion (WIM) Strip Sensors for commercial vehicle enforcement in the Ukraine.

Driver protection at railroad crossings is not foolproof. Drivers do ignore obvious warnings at crossings, endangering their safety as well as the safety of other motorists and rail operators. Railroad and traffic managers continue to add supplemental safety measures to crossings to improve safety as rail traffic becomes more complex with quiet zones and high-speed rail corridors.

Deployments in the progressive city of Austin, Texas will mark this significant milestone of more than 2,000 McCain ATC Cabinet installations in North America. Austin recently awarded McCain a five-year, $2.6 million city-wide ATC Cabinet contract as Austin is prepared for a future with smart city and CAV capabilities.
