Sontrafic protects smartphone zombies

We’ve all seen them. In fact – to be honest – we’ve all probably been them at some point: smartphone zombies – otherwise known as “smombies” – are those pedestrians who are too distracted by scrolling through their Insta timelines or listening to their headphones to check whether it is safe to cross the road.

The consequences for vulnerable road users of not paying attention can be disastrous, and this is where Sontrafic’s ‘floor traffic light’ comes in: the TLS (Traffic Light Smombie) system aims to provide dynamic information about the status of a crossing.

The Sontrafic TLS.95-RG solution keeps distracted people safe by giving a visual reminder that they’re about to step onto a roadway – and indicating using bright colours whether it is safe to do so or not. The TLS system displays a line of light embedded in the ground which changes colour between green – indicating that it is okay to cross the road – and red: stay where you are! Since smombies are always looking down, the idea is that this will catch their attention better than traditional signal displays.

The TLS.95-RG is designed to be installed exclusively in pedestrian and bicycle – rather than motor vehicle - passage areas. Embedded in the pavement, they are non-slip and don’t impede foot traffic in any way.
