Dekra to perform testing for cellular Vehicle to Everything technology in Málaga, Spain

Kapsch has received certification for the RIS-9160 and RIS-9260 connected vehicle roadside units (RSUs) from the OmniAir consortium. The green light from OmniAir confirms RSUs meet operational standards set by the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, Society of Automotive Engineers and specifications from the US Department of Transportation (USDoT). The company says each unit enables Vehicle to Infrastructure communication when implemented with corresponding in-vehicle on-board units (OBUs).

Ficosa has received European RED certification for its CarCom platform with cellular vehicle to everything (C-V2X) technology. The company says the CarCom platform allows users to integrate the DSRC (802.11p) and C-V2X connectivity options in a modular way while also offering a dual mode variant. Ficosa intends to use the certification to supply automotive components in collaborative systems for smart cities. German vehicle inspection organisation DEKRA is building a connected car test area in Malaga, Spain, as part of its international testing network for connected and automated driving. The test area will open before the end of 2017and area will focus on R&D and early production testing, while the existing test ground at DEKRA in Klettwitz and the Lausitzring race track in Germany, recently acquired by DEKRA, will be set up for automotive systems, whole vehicle and infrastructure testing.

German transportation provider Stadtwerke Augsburg is experimenting with warning lights at two pedestrian crossings in the city in an effort to alert oblivious phone-using pedestrians to approaching trams. Rows of flashing LED lights installed into the kerb are intended to act as an alternative to conventional warning signs; when a tram approaches, they flash red to warn pedestrians that the traffic signal is red and green when it is safe to cross.

Speaking to representatives from the South African Department of Transport, the Parliament and the South African automotive industry at a working lunch in Pretoria, Clemens Klinke, head of German service company DEKRA’s automotive business unit, called for the issue of road safety to be given high priority. “Road safety is a key factor for the development of emerging economies.
