Siemens subsidiaries launch app-based on-demand service to tie in with local trains

Mobility as a Service platform will allow providers to tailor services to needs of travellers

Siemens is planning to acquire German company HaCon, which provides planning, scheduling and information systems for public transportation, mobility and logistics. Trip planning software from HaCon is used in more than 25 countries and comprises the centre piece of the travel information systems in operation at more than 100 transport companies and associations.

Capital Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Capital Metro) in Austin, Texas, has partnered with HaCon and Bytemark to develop trip planning tools for both web and mobile platforms. The CapMetro App, which has already been downloaded more than 250,000 times, now features updated traveller tools that provide door-to-door trip planning and real-time data visualisation on a predictive live map.

HaCon is expanding its international activities into the North American market, in a partnership with Bytemark that will see the two companies deliver new IT capabilities for transit agencies and accurate real-time transit information for passengers. French infrastructure manager SNCF Réseau has opted for and HaCon’s train planning system (TPS) as part of their redesign process in terms of managing and creating timetables. TPS will be implemented for about 650 train planners at SNCF Réseau – HaCon is realizing this major project together with its partners Sopra Steria Consulting, who is managing the consortium, and Cereza/Groupe Talan.
