A-to-Be is to provide a toll collection system for Houbolt Road Extension in Joliet, Illinois.

When completed, the 1.5-mile roadway/bridge project will serve CenterPoint Intermodal Center, the nation’s largest inland port.

The company says one third of all US freight is "generated by, attracted to or passes through the project’s area", which means the Houbolt Road Extension will cut congestion and support logistics activities.

It is owned and operated by HRE-JV, a joint venture between United Bridge Partners and CenterPoint Properties.

A-to-Be will provide LinkBeyond ORT (open road tolling), a toll collection system comprised of the Toll Zone Controller subsystem and a cloud-based, multipurpose toll facility host.

The solution also includes A-to-Be Reporting; A-to-Be DVAS, a digital video audit system; and A-to-Be MOMS, a maintenance online management system.

A-To-Be and HRE-JV began the design and implementation of the system in January this year, and A-to-Be will provide warranty and maintenance support for 10 years following system acceptance.

Lee Whitney, senior associate at United Bridge Partners, says A-to-Be's "40-plus years of expertise and significant presence in Illinois will help to provide and maintain a safe and accurate system for our patrons".

Douglas Chastain, chief sales officer, North America, at A-to-Be, said: “We appreciate the trust that HRE has placed in us, and we look forward to a long and successful partnership with United Bridge Partners and HRE-JV.”
