According to the traffic police, prior to winning the contract Vitronic achieved the highest score and highest detection rate in one of the most complicated field tests that have been held in Abu Dhabi, in which four other traffic enforcement companies also participated. The test comprised over 20 enforcement and violation scenarios across up to six lanes simultaneously. The PoliScan system was the only speed enforcement device in the test setup that was able to document six vehicles speeding in parallel on all lanes.
Vitronic will supply also and set up its two enforcement management software suites, PoliScanconnect and PoliScanoffice pro, enabling the police to transfer all case data online and monitor the real time status of connected devices and support all steps in the case verification process.
“We have chosen Vitronic as the strategic partner in implementing the most advanced and comprehensive automated enforcement system in the world. It includes a variety of unique features such as tailgating detection systems, average speed enforcement and anti-vandalism systems,” said Brigadier General Hussain Al Harthi, head of the Traffic and Patrols Directorate at Abu Dhabi Police.
“Besides these features the Vitronic systems will also help to enforce traffic rules for motorists driving on hard shoulders, time dependent lane and vehicle class specific bans, as well as vehicles that impede traffic flow (minimum speed enforcement). As far as we know this is one of the biggest single traffic enforcement projects worldwide,” said Youssef El Hansali, chief executive officer of Vitronic Machine Vision Middle East. “It is also a preview into the future of traffic enforcement, where you no longer have a simple stationary speed camera but a smart and flexible enforcement network that is connected to an operating center and allows the police to react to all major traffic hazards.”
The project is the result of an in-depth collaboration with Tatweer, Vitronic’s exclusive partner in Abu Dhabi and other countries of the Arab world. Tatweer combined its expertise and in-depth understanding of Abu Dhabi’s traffic safety challenges to successfully distinguish the joint proposal from all the competing bids.
Tatweer’s Dr Atef elaborated: “This project has been a long journey of detailed planning, testing and re-testing; because when it comes to safeguarding the lives of Abu Dhabi’s population on our roads, we leave no stone unturned. Each of the partners in this project brought a unique set of expertise, and by combining our strengths we developed a smart solution that can compete with the world’s most advanced systems.”
