The $8.9 million service contract was awarded by the 343 Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC).

The Bay Area’s existing 511 system has been the go-to source for actionable traveller information, handling more than 2.3 million web user sessions and 660,000 calls per month.

The new Iteris Interactive Voice Response (IVR) phone and data management system provides increased user capacity and functionality, including improved voice recognition and multilingual services. The IVR system will continue to deliver real-time traffic, parking and transit information to the end users. Iteris will also provide future enhancements to the next generation 511 system to continually improve its overall services.

Iteris says its traveller information platform is highly scalable and efficient, can rapidly ingest third party information and disseminate it to vehicles and transit users through multiple channels. The platform has been extensively field-proven and is currently deployed in nine state-wide systems, as well as four regional systems in California.

Ramin Massoumi, senior vice president and general manager of Transportation Systems at Iteris, commented: "This new real-time, multimodal phone system will bring next generation traveller information to the Bay Area and improve how commuters navigate to their desired destinations. Given the immense size of the San Francisco metro area and the numerous travellers that rely on 511 for their daily commute, this contract win represents a tremendous affirmation of the capabilities and quality of our advanced 511 platform.”
