Self-driving car company Drive.ai is to introduce an on-demand transportation service in the City of Frisco, Texas, from July. The six-month programme is intended to offer rides to over 10,000 people within a geofenced area comprising retail, entertainment and office space.

Initially, the route will include pickup and drop-off locations around Hall Park and The Star. An extension is planned to follow into the Frisco Station.

Drive.ai’s service will be operated alongside Frisco Transportation Management Association, a public-private partnership that aims to bring last-mile transportation options to the area. The group also includes Frisco Station Partners and the 7216 Denton County Transportation Authority. Frisco is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area.

The vehicles will be painted a highly-visible orange – and will also feature four external screens that communicate the vehicles’ intended actions to pedestrians and other drivers.
