4824 Coulomb Technologies has celebrated a significant milestone for the 4825 ChargePoint America programme. At a ceremony in Exposition Park hosted by the Honorable Antonio Villaraigosa, Mayor of Los Angeles. US Energy Secretary Steven Chu and Coulomb Technologies founder and CTO Richard Lowenthal unveiled the 500th ChargePoint America station available now on the ChargePoint Network. Others attending the ceremony included ChargePoint America programme vehicle partners 1960 Chevrolet, 278 Ford and 4826 Smart USA as well as electric vehicles from 838 Nissan, 597 Tesla Motors, Coda and Smith.

The US$37 million ChargePoint America programme is made possible by a $15 million grant funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act through the Transportation Electrification Initiative administered by the Department of Energy, combined with $22 million from other public agencies including the 4259 California Energy Commission and private industry. Adding to the existing ChargePoint Network, which is claimed to be the world’s largest charging network containing the largest number of EV drivers, the ChargePoint America programme will provide 4,600 public and home ChargePoint Networked Charging Stations this year.

Since Coulomb’s ChargePoint America programme announcement on 1 June, 2010, free programme charging stations have been awarded and installed in all of the original nine programme regions: Detroit, New York, Orlando, Fla., Washington DC, Sacramento, Calif., the San Jose/San Francisco Bay Area, Bellevue/Redmond, Wash, Los Angeles and Austin, TX. Recently, the programme announced expansion into six new cities including Baltimore, MD, Central Florida (Tampa), Boston, Santa Barbara, CA, Ventura, CA and Santa Cruz, CA. The ChargePoint stations at Exposition Park are free and open to the public and were installed by the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (DWP) and made part of the ChargePoint America programme.
