It’ll be a little easier to find a parking space in notoriously traffic-congested Los Angeles thanks to a new advanced parking system developed by 4186 Xerox and the Los Angeles Department of Transportation (LADOT).
Launched Monday, LA ExpressPark increases the availability of limited parking spaces, relieves traffic congestion and reduces air pollution.
“Downtown is the heart and soul of Los Angeles and has experienced significant growth over the last decade,” said Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa in a written statement. “LA ExpressPark’s dynamic system will make parking in downtown easier, faster and smarter for all Angelenos.”
The one-year pilot was funded by a $15 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation. It includes a real-time parking guidance system that displays parking information on street signs and through a new mobile app. New meters and multi-space pay stations will accept a variety of payment methods, including a pay-by-phone option. The deployment also includes a Xerox Merge Parking Management System to process transactions and provide real-time parking data analytics to LADOT and motorists.
