The city of Sunrise in Florida has extended its red light camera program, with systems supplied by American Traffic Solutions (ATS), for a further three years. Sunrise began its road safety camera program in August 2011, and currently operates 19 cameras at ten intersections. Progress to date shows drivers are getting the message to stop on red. In 2013 Sensys received an order from long-term customer in Malta comprising delivery and system and support services. The Massachusetts Department of Transportation awarded Raytheon Company a US$130 million contract for an all electronic tolling system (AET). Raytheon and a team of Massachusetts-based companies will convert and replace all manual cash and electronic toll collection systems with an advanced system that will automatically toll vehicles as they pass under a gantry similar to an overhead sign. Preliminary data collected by the US National Safety Council indicates deaths from motor vehicle crashes during the first six months of 2014 are down four per cent, compared to the same six month period last year. In 2014, 16,180 traffic deaths occurred from January through June, compared to 16,860 in 2013. Definitive reasons behind the decrease are not known.
