Yakup Harmanci, foreign trade executive for the firm, commented: “Our idea is to increase traffic safety. People can see the poles more easily.”
Conspicuity is maximised as in addition to the conventional signal light at the top of the pole, a lighting strip runs from the base to the main signal light.
The poles offer other safety benefits also. Made from aluminium, Harmanci says that the poles will bend in the event of an impact by a vehicle, reducing the dangers of injuries for occupants in comparison with conventional steel poles. These latest signal poles offer other benefits too. Harmanci commented: “It’s a green technology as they’re 100% recyclable.”
The aluminium construction also offers around four times the working life of a conventional galvanised steel pole according to Harmanci, making the Ekaldes units a better investment over the long term.
