Italian ITS specialist Tattile expands its range of vehicle identification systems by the new Vega 1, an intelligent camera specifically designed for single lane vehicle tracking, traffic limited areas and priority lanes, as well as congestion charge. The core of the new Vega 1 with an onboard automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) engine, is a dual channel camera built in a compact case which allows an easy setup to minimise the installation and maintenance times. The local storage allows the solution
Teledyne Dalsa showcases 5-Gigabit, GigE vision models
Teledyne Dalsa’s 5-Gigabit, GigE Vision cameras are intended for imaging applications which require high-speed data transfer. The company says the new cameras can replace existing units built into current vision systems which rely on the existing GigE vision interface standard. The Genie Nano cameras are built around Sony image sensors and are expected to offer resolutions from 3.2Mpixels to 12Mpixels - with more models to follow by the end of the year, the firm says. Also, the cameras feature the new 5G
Basler exhibit's four Ace U cameras with 20 MP resolution
Basler is showcasing four Ace U cameras which feature 20MP resolution at Vision 2018. The company says a single camera can monitor multi-lane highways.
The four Ace U models are suitable for inspection of structures such as printed circuit board or display production, the company adds.
According to Basler, the products allow customers to use fewer cameras to achieve the same amount of pixels as before with cameras with lower resolution. This can also help reduce issues of image registration and mechanic
Theia Technologies launches ML610M 6-10mm varifocal lens
Theia Technologies is showcasing its range of 4K and megapixel NIR corrected lenses for ITS. The telephoto lenses are used for long distance, high detail applications such as ANPR/LPR and tolling. They maintain 4K and 5+ megapixel resolutions even in near IR light and include models with Precise iris, or P-iris for improved depth of field. The lenses are compact for their telephoto focal range, size format and full feature capability, including models with motorised zoom, focus and IR cut filter. When a
Azure Photonics presents zoom and IR-corrected lenses
Azure Photonics says its zoom lenses and IR-corrected lenses are optimised for long working distance of 1m~ infinity. The zoom lenses cover different focal lengths ranging from 4-60mm with low distortion and high definition. The IR-corrected lenses are expected to cover 2/3”, 1/1.2” and 1” image circle with the design wavelength of 400-950nm at the resolution of 3MP, 5MP and 10MP. The company says the lenses are suitable for vision applications such as traffic laws and rules enforcement, security, parking

London’s zero-emission plan is premature, warns FTA
Plans to implement a clean air zone in London are premature, says a transport trade body - because zero-emission vehicles are not commercially viable.
The Freight Transport Association (FTA) is unimpressed with the City of London Transport Strategy’s ambition to improve air quality and traffic in the east of the capital and the Barbican area by 2022.
This draft scheme, which maps out a 25-year framework for managing streets within the City’s ‘Square Mile’, includes establishing a speed limit of 15 mp
Ford AVs on streets of Washington, DC
Ford is to be the first company to test autonomous vehicles (AVs) in Washington, DC – with a view to starting a commercial service there in 2021.
The car company – which already has AV trials in Detroit, Pittsburgh and Miami - will begin testing in the US capital early next year.
An operations centre will be set up in the city and Sherif Marakby, CEO of Ford Autonomous Vehicles, says fleet deployment will be done in a way that aids job creation.
The company plans to work with local officials to tes

The 'C' word - confidence - may be holding back EV investment
Confidence. A little word with big implications. For example, electric vehicles (EVs) are coming in big numbers. We all know this. Falling battery costs and increasing environmental concerns are pushing the industry towards a tipping point. Figures from the latest Bloomberg New Energy Finance report suggest that there will be 30 million electric cars in the world by 2030, and that China will account for half this number before then. EVs are, governments and urban authorities tell us, A Good Thing: fewer
