Chinese electric car manufacturer BYD and London green minicab company greentomatocars have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to create London’s first fleet of all-electric minicabs. BYD will supply greentomatocars with 50 of its pure electric e6 models for trial use in the capital. The cars are expected to be available for customers to use from the second quarter of 2013.

The company installed the system on the Bosphorus Bridge, which links Europe and Asia. Italy’s largest industrial company, oil and gas giant ENI, has asked all its third-party transport operators to use the new EGNOS system, which allows more accurate tracking of dangerous goods in transit. Satellite-based EGNOS improves the accuracy of existing GPS tracking systems, giving a vehicle’s position to an accuracy of one metre, compared to around four metres by GPS alone, said Telespazio’s Antonello Di Fazio at the World Congress yesterday. Toyota is trialling a new driver information system which, if successful, could start to appear in Japanese cities around 2015. Trials started in March this year. The Next Generation Vehicle Infrastructure Co-operation Service consists of sensors mounted on city streets that communicate with vehicles by radio.
