IBM and Ireland’s Electricity Supply Board (ESB) are set to work together to deploy more integrated charging IT system for electric vehicles in Ireland. San Antonio, Texas, chooses Toshiba LED street lights
Toshiba International is to replace over 20,000 high-pressure sodium (HPS) street lamps in San Antonio, Texas with LED luminaires. The city’s existing 250-watt HPS luminaires consume 310 system watts and are being replaced by Toshiba’s 100-watt 42-chip TGT LED luminaires. According to Toshiba, product durability and low energy consumption means LED lighting provides one of the lowest life cycle costs of any lighting technology.
Ecotricity to install UK motorway electric vehicle charge points
UK company Ecotricity is to install a network of rapid charging points in motorway service stations around the country enabling an electric car to be recharged in around 15 minutes. Conventional charging points usually take several hours to provide enough power for modern electric cars. With a range of around 100 miles, this has meant the vehicles are largely used for short journeys in towns and cities, limiting their uptake by consumers.

Indonesia to fund transportation system pilot
The Indonesian Transportation Ministry has allocated US$11.4 million for an ITS project to be implemented in 22 cities in the country. “The government has prepared US$0.5 million for each city,” said transportation deputy minister Bambang Susantono. A new freeway toll scheme plan has been unveiled by the Transportation and Communication Minister Mao Chi-kuo in Taiwan. All drivers are required to pay toll under the pay-as-you-go scheme. According to the minister, an average of between US$0.51 and US$0.68 will be paid by the drivers daily. Planned to be launched in 2013, the charges will be based on travel distance.
