Thales has delivered European Train Control System (ETCS) Level 1 systems for the Gyeongchun Line, a 81 km rail link in the north-east of Seoul, in South Korea, and the 89 km Jeolla Line serving Yeosu in the south of the country, host city for Expo 2012. Thales Austria has signed the contract with the Hungarian infrastructure company NIF to provide modern electronic train control technology for the 101 km electrified Boba-Bajánsenye line. The contract includes the design, supply, installation and commissioning of a complete European Train Control System (ETCS) Level 2 solution and adaptations to the existing ETCS Level 1 system.

Thales has opened the last phase of Mecca’s new 18.5 km metro line on schedule and in time for the Hajj pilgrimage, the world’s largest religious gathering. The line transports pilgrims between holy sites, reducing travel time between Arafat and Muzdalifah from five hours to just ten minutes.

Thales has been selected by Andrade Gutierrez (AG) and CR Almeida to deliver its SelTrac communications-based train control (CBTC) signalling solution for Line 17 of the São Paulo metro. Thales has been awarded a contract to implement a ticketing system for the Rapid MetroRail Gurgaon, a new metro transit system in the city of Gurgaon, connected to Delhi metro.

Société de Transport de Montréal (STM) has awarded Thales a contract for a high performance broadband radio network communication system. It will comprise a management system, over 250 wayside radios, onboard radios, antennas for installation throughout the tunnels and on STM’s train fleet, network security devices and CCTV cameras for monitoring passenger flow at all station platforms.

Thales and its consortium partner, the Hungarian company Dunántúli Kft., has signed a contract worth over US$91 million with the Hungarian infrastructure company NIF (National Infrastructure Development Company) to provide the state-of-art interlocking and electronic train protection technology for the 66 km Szajol-Püspöklandany line.

Scomi Engineering, which is upgrading Kuala Lumpur monorail for its operator Prasarana, has selected Thales to supply a turnkey signalling solution costing some US$18.6 million. The monorail, operational since 2003 in Malaysia’s capital, is currently expanding its passenger transportation capacity by the introduction of new rolling stock with four-carriage trains and by the replacement of the existing signalling along the eleven stations of the monorail.

Thales has been awarded a contract by IHI Corporation to re-signal the automated people mover (APM) located within Hong Kong international airport, with a state-of-the-art solution. The company will supply its radio-based SelTrac CBTC system for the existing lines and for a planned extension to the Midfield Concourse, which will service a third runway. The CBTC technology will also be applied to both existing and new trains circulating on the line. Project completion is scheduled for 2014.

Banedanmark, the Danish infrastructure owner, has awarded the Thales - Balfour Beatty Rail consortium, a €400 million contract for the installation of a state-of-the-art European signalling system on nearly 1,200 km of rail lines across Jutland.
