Sweden-based Bluecity provides multimodal traffic data for traffic operations, using a high-resolution 3D Lidar sensor together with a perception software component that detects vehicles, bicycles and pedestrians. The system is privacy-friendly, as it does not record either the faces of drivers or vehicle licence plates.

The system uses safety analytics and signal performance measures to gain instant insight into traffic patterns and thus optimise traffic flow.

The system is being used in Stockholm to replace inductive loops, to give the Swedish capital’s authorities access to information on the quantities and direction of traffic, as well as to measure safety metrics, such as near-misses and speeding.

In Helsinki, the system has been piloted at a busy junction, to produce information on vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians and warn of impending dangers.

In Dubai, the system is also being piloted at the city’s main junctions. Once its accuracy is confirmed, it will be integrated with traffic controllers for traffic actuation, to improve the safety of vulnerable road users.
