EasyMile has launched a version of its EZ10 driverless shuttle which does not require an on-board attendant at the Global Public Transport Summit 2019 in Stockholm, Sweden. EasyMile says the latest version of the shuttle is managed from a remote control centre where a supervisor monitors the autonomous vehicle via a real-time data stream and ensures communication with passengers. The shuttle’s sensor has been optimised for a more accurate vision even in challenging weather conditions, the company adds.

Automotive giant Continental has signed a deal with autonomous driving specialist EasyMile to create a joint R&D facility in Singapore. The combined team will work on solutions for driverless mobility, focusing on perception and deep learning, to prepare autonomous vehicle (AV) technology for tests. Driverless technology company EasyMile has been awarded the Start Up of the Year in France for the south region by international consulting firm EY. The company says the award recognises its innovation and vision - and highlights its growth potential. Gilbert Cagnaire, CEO and founder of EasyMile, received the award at a ceremony in Toulouse. EasyMile will now enter the overall Entrepreneur of the Year award in the Start Up category on 18 October in Paris.

Visitors at the University of Western Australia (UWA) can now travel around the campus on an EasyMile autonomous bus. The partnership has launched a nine-day project to assess the possibility of using this type of technology as an on-site sustainable transport link. The bus will travel at 5Kmh with a trained observer onboard who will oversee the technology and answer questions. Colorado’s governor Jon Hickenlooper declared 4 December as Connected and Autonomous Vehicle Day following a visit with civic leaders and corporate executives to an autonomous vehicle (AV) technology demonstration at Panasonic’s Denver facility. Through a new partnership it plans to deploy AV technology next to the building, in Spring 2018. The event also featured EasyMile’s autonomous shuttle inaugural journey to Peña Station as well as the opening of its new North American headquarters.

EasyMile has partnered with Iveco, Sector, Transpolis, Isae-supaero, Ifsttar, Inria, and Michelin to integrate autonomous technology into a full-size 12-meter bus. EasyMile’s partners Contra Costa Transportation Authority (CCTA) and GoMentum has received permission from the National Highway Traffic Authority to test EasyMile's EZ10 driverless shuttles on public roads within the Bishop Ranch business park in San Ramon, California. CCTA staff are in active discussions with the California Department of Motor Vehicles who will also need to give their consent for the third phase of the trial to go ahead.
