Michael Hurwitz, director of transport innovation at Transport for London, and Pedro Mourisca, CEO of Via Verde in Portugal, are the latest additions to ITS International’s second MaaS Market - Concept to Delivery conference, on the 20 – 21 February. The London event will focus on the progress being made and obstacles faced by MaaS projects across Europe.

The Arbella Insurance Group (Arbella) and Cambridge Mobile Telematics (CMT) have launched a driving app for all residents of Massachusetts and Connecticut with the intention of changing driver behaviour and improving safety through real-time feedback, personalised data and insights and gamification. Called Wheel Focused, it provides feedback on rapid acceleration, hard braking, sharp turns, speeding and phone distraction while logging trips and presenting feedback after the journey is completed. Japan-based Denso has developed a new standard vision sensor that aims to detect pedestrians at night, cyclists, road signs, driving lanes and other road users. It works with a millimetre-wave radar sensor, enabling automobiles to activate emergency braking when obstacles are identified to help reduce accidents and improve safety.

Parkeon Transportations has upgraded 51 Edinburgh Trams ticketing terminals to accept contactless debit and credit cards, along with Apple Pay and Android Pay on mobile devices with the intention of enabling commuters to purchase tickets easier and quicker. It has reached 50% of all terminal-based transactions in the first two weeks.

GVB, the authority operating the municipal public transport network in Amsterdam, has awarded Indra a contract to install more than 130 automatic ticket vending machines at the city’s underground, streetcar and bus network. The technology aims to make it easier for users to purchase tickets within a more simplified system. Indra has confirmed it will implement the solution in less than two years.

John Hickenlooper, governor of Colorado, has announced the launch of the Colorado Electric Vehicle (EV) Plan to support EV infrastructure along the Western state’s corridors. Shanghai Shentong Metro Group has awarded Thales SEC Transport the signalling contract for the Fully Automated Operation (FAO) Line 14 of the City’s Metro. It will provide an integrated management system as well as signalling and supervision solutions with the intention of meeting the demand for metro transport capacity and alleviating traffic in the downtown area. The driverless and highly automated line is scheduled to enter service at the end of 2020.

A partnership comprising Exel Composites Oyj (Finland), Vaisala Oyj (Finland) and Teleste have received a JEC Innovation Award nomination for their Smart LED lighting pole with integrated functions at this year's competition in Paris on the 7 March 2018.
