Japan-based Denso has developed a new standard vision sensor that aims to detect pedestrians at night, cyclists, road signs, driving lanes and other road users. It works with a millimetre-wave radar sensor, enabling automobiles to activate emergency braking when obstacles are identified to help reduce accidents and improve safety.

Parkeon Transportations has upgraded 51 Edinburgh Trams ticketing terminals to accept contactless debit and credit cards, along with Apple Pay and Android Pay on mobile devices with the intention of enabling commuters to purchase tickets easier and quicker. It has reached 50% of all terminal-based transactions in the first two weeks.

GVB, the authority operating the municipal public transport network in Amsterdam, has awarded Indra a contract to install more than 130 automatic ticket vending machines at the city’s underground, streetcar and bus network. The technology aims to make it easier for users to purchase tickets within a more simplified system. Indra has confirmed it will implement the solution in less than two years.

Shanghai Shentong Metro Group has awarded Thales SEC Transport the signalling contract for the Fully Automated Operation (FAO) Line 14 of the City’s Metro. It will provide an integrated management system as well as signalling and supervision solutions with the intention of meeting the demand for metro transport capacity and alleviating traffic in the downtown area. Sick has launched the TIC502 Lidar sensor traffic and warning system which is said to scan vehicles up to 100 times a second with 99% accuracy to generate a 3D profile of each vehicle. The all-weather solution can be used for counting fast lane, free-flowing and static traffic to facilitate real-time management and electronic toll charge assessment of all vehicle types according to standard international transport classifications.
