It’s one thing to digitally print permanent and temporary road quality signs at great speed, but another thing to make them durable as well. The ideal situation is to do both, which is why global ink manufacturer 3M – a producer of durable sheeting, inks and overlays – has already teamed up with three of the best makers of high-speed print machines to offer the perfect combination to clients. Visitors to the 3M stand can see printing in action on units from Durst Rho, EFI and HP.

Intertraffic visitors can view Tubthumpa, which is claimed to be ‘the ultimate rebounding signpost’, on the Saferoads Pty stand in Hall 5. Tubthumpa is an integrated rebounding post and sign designed to eliminate constantly damaged signs on traffic islands and centre medians.

HR Groep’s Infrastructure Category award-winning Smart Ultimate Lighting takes pride of place on its stand in Hall 1. This is a road sign that incorporates a foil (similar to mobile phone screen technology) which illuminates at night to light-up road signs rather than requiring separate incandescent or LED lighting. According to the company the foil provides sufficient light, even in inclement weather conditions such as rain and fog, that the sign remains totally visible.

TrafiRadar, an integrated radar and visual intersection monitoring and sensing system, is being demonstrated by Flir. The unit contains both a Doppler radar and a megapixel camera and can detect the presence, speed and location of a vehicle up to 250m from the stop line.

Swedish road safety solutions supplier ATA has announced the strategic acquisition of FMK Trafikprodukter here at Intertraffic. ATA, a subsidiary of the UK based infrastructure group Hill & Smith Holdings, has bought FMK as the latest move in its growth strategy for the Nordic region.

Easylux says it has transformed the portable retroreflector market with its MiniReflecto Horizontal. The MiniReflecto is a family of innovative instruments for on-site or laboratory measuring of retroreflection and reflection properties. Items that can be measured include road markings, road signs, road studs, safety clothing and any objects or material designed to reflect light.

A new flexible bollard for cycleways is being exhibited by SignPost Solutions, based on the company’s popular SPS 3Sixty product. The new flexible information bollard has been crash tested to the European standard BS EN 12767:2007.

An innovative pedestrian touch and sound button for signalised pedestrian crossings is being exhibited at Intertraffic, courtesy of SCAE. The company’s Tweety touch and sound button allows pedestrians to request a green light signal, including a touch sensitive switch and sound and vibration for aiding the blind and hard of sight.

Spinnaker is the name of the Signal Group’s new central control system that coordinates the company’s intersection controllers. The company supplies a range of intersection controllers from simple time-based sequencing units to traffic responsive and fully adaptive systems. Now Spinnaker uses web-based technology to control and coordinate roadside controllers to provide traffic managers with better information and additional control options.
