Ericsson demos autonomous parking via solar energy
Ericsson has launched a solar-powered car which finds out which parking spot contains the most sunshine and then moves to position itself accordingly.
The company says it can drive autonomously to a particular space to recharge its batteries.
The experimental Stella Era vehicle, which has a range of 1,800km, is equipped with Ericsson’s Solar Smart parking solution and can also share its energy with other electric vehicles parked next to it, the company adds.

New York transit joins Paris greenhouse gas initiative
New York’s Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) has joined the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions in line with the Paris Climate Agreement.
The Paris document seeks to keep a global temperature rise this century below 2 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial level and to limit temperature increase to 1.5 degrees Celsius.

Finland prepares ‘fossil-free transport’ roadmap
Finland is aiming to go green in a big way by cutting road transport emissions.
The country’s minister of transport and communications, Sanna Marin, has appointed a working group to prepare the country’s roadmap for fossil-free transport.
Marin says: “The aim is to create a range of means for cutting transport emissions by half over the next decade. The solutions must be ecologically, financially and socially sustainable.”

Uber adds Delhi’s public transport information to app
Uber has launched its journey planning feature ‘Public Transport’ in New Delhi in a move which integrates its app with the Indian city’s metro and bus services.
Uber says riders will be provided with the fastest and cheapest routes, and real-time schedules – including departure times for public transport and walking directions to and from metro stations and bus stops.
The announcement follows an agreement for Uber to provide mobility services across 210 Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) stations.

Italian automaker Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) is merging with Peugeot owner Groupe PSA in a move that will combine their capabilities in sustainable mobility.

Panasonic to launch autonomous cart ride-share in 2021
Panasonic is to launch a ride-sharing service of autonomous electric carts in Japan in 2021 for small towns and other ‘confined’ areas.
A report by The Mainichi says the company is now using four carts to transport more than 14,000 employees around its headquarters in Osaka Prefecture ahead of the commercial launch.
The carts operate at 20 km/h per hour on a 2.4km loop around the premises, which is around 468,000 m2 in size.

Gnewt to trial V2G tech to power EV fleet
A London-based parcel delivery service is to trial Vehicle to Grid (V2G) technology to help power 70 electric vehicles (EVs).
Gnewt by Menzies Distribution intends to use V2G to explore the ability of EVs releasing energy back to the grid when not in use.
The trial is part of a Cisco-led project called E-Flex which aims to demonstrate how V2G can help reduce the demand EVs put on energy networks.

NTSB: Uber’s AV in fatal crash ‘had software issues’
The US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has found that an Uber autonomous vehicle which killed Elaine Herzberg last year had software flaws.
NTSB released a report which says the Volvo XC60’s autonomous system software classified the pedestrian as an unknown object and determined that an emergency braking manoeuvre was needed to mitigate the collision.
Uber confirmed that emergency braking manoeuvres must be carried out manually and the system is not designed to alert the driver.
