Roamworks forms partnership on IoT connectivity for remote assets
Internet of Things (IoT) solutions provider Roamworks has formed a partnership in the Middle East with connectivity experts Aeris to provide its clients with a service for tracking assets in rural and remote locations. The solution, available to the transport and other industries, will help to increase efficiency and productivity, cut costs, increase safety and gain insights into business operations, according to Mohsen Mohseninia, Aeris' vice president for Europe.
Canada partners with University to support Auto Innovation
Canada has joined forces with the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) to upgrade its Automotive Centre of Excellence (ACE) with the intention of assisting companies and researchers in their efforts to reduce carbon emissions in the automotive industry. Under the agreement, ACE will add a Moving Ground Plane – a belt that serves as a road moving under a vehicle, simulating the aerodynamic forces against moving vehicles and measuring the physical characteristics in real-world conditions.
Upstream appoints Andy McDonald SVP for worldwide sales
Ontario-based Upstream Works (UW) has appointed Andy McDonald as senior vice president, worldwide sales, as part of a strategy to better serve the growing demand for its communication solutions. He will lead the partner and sales teams in North America and Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA).
McDonald was previously vice president of sales and general manager EMEA, where he led UW into the European market.
OCTA launch bus app and change routes to increase ridership
Orange County Transportation Authority's (OCTA's) mobile ticketing solution is now available on its bus fleet systemwide to help make boarding easier. It has also made a series of changes to existing routes with the intention of providing a more efficient service. Riders can now purchase fares via the OC Buss app on their smartphone or other mobile devices, enabling them to call up for a Quick Response code and scan it on the onboard reader. The application is available for iPhone and Android devices.

Norway uses connected cars to increase safety on wintry roads
Norwegian road authority Norska Statens Vegvesen (NSV) is deploying Klimator and Nira Dynamics’ Road Status Information (RSI) software in connected cars to determine and transmit road grip conditions in real-time with the intention of increasing safety on wintry roads. RSI uses algorithms that combine the data from the vehicles with information from roadside weather stations and weather forecasts. Panasonic and Trend Micro to enhance cyber security for connected cars
Panasonic has joined forces with Trend Micro to develop solutions that protect autonomous and connected cars against cyber attacks, with the intention of launching commercially after 2020.
The partnership will focus on advancing technologies that detect and prevent intrusions into Electronic Control Units (ECUs) which manage acceleration, steering and braking as well as in-vehicle infotainment devices.
