Sweden working on device to test tiredness of drivers
Marcus Nyström, researcher at the Lund University Humanities Lab, in Sweden, has revealed that the lab is currently developing a product that will be able to test if a person is too tired to drive. The project uses eyetracking, where a driver is required to follow a moving ball and his eye movements and pupil reactions are evaluated to determine if he/she is too tired to drive safely.

Axeon has announced it is one of six British companies to receive funding from the UK's Technology Strategy Board for feasibility studies into the recycling and re-use of batteries for hybrid and electric vehicles. Study says New Jersey voters strongly support red light cameras
The National Coalition for Safer Roads (NCSR) has released new research showing that New Jersey residents who took part in a survey it commissioned overwhelmingly support the use of red light safety cameras. The poll found that 77 per cent back the use of cameras at busy intersections in New Jersey, with 43 per cent saying they ‘strongly support’ the cameras.
Germany’s road traffic deaths fall to 60-year low
According to Germany's Federal Statistics Office, Destatis, the number of people who died in road traffic accidents in Germany decreased by 12 per cent to a 60-year low of 3,648 in 2010 compared to 2009. Paradoxically, the number of accidents registered by the police rose by 4.3 per cent to an 11-year high of around 2.4 millon. The increase in the number of accidents has been put down to the exceptional weather conditions, in particular in the winter season.

CO2 emissions from Danish cars the lowest within the EU
CO2 emissions from Danish cars are the lowest within the EU, according to new data, based on information provided by all EU member countries about passenger cars sold during 2010 and published by the European Environmental Agency. Danish passenger cars' CO2 emissions amounted to 126.6 g/km, followed by Portugal at 127.3 g/km and France at 130.5 g/km. Denmark is also among the countries that have reduced their CO2 emissions from new cars the most compared with the past year.
