Ruggedised Ethernet switches

AMG Systems' new 9000 series of ruggedised Ethernet switches have been specifically designed for outdoor and harsh industrial environments with extended temperature requirements, including roadside cabinet mounting for transport applications. The switches support ring topologies and are claimed to offer a cost-effective networking solution without comprising on advanced functionality such as fast ring recovery (less than 20ms) and power over Ethernet.

TwinSet and C.ticket from ASK

TwinSet, a contactless smart card that combines HF and UHF features on the same card, has been launched by ASK. The UHF chip is for fast track access, such as tolling or parking access control, while the HF chip is for compliance with the existing equipment for building access control and a contact chip when necessary for logical access control.

Smart transportation system being developed in Qatar

Laser-based counting and classification

Swiss company ECTN has developed a Traffic Information Collector (TIC) system based on laser scanners. 3D vehicle data is generated by positioning the lasers over each lane, to automatically classify vehicles. Up to 28 different vehicle classes are categorised into standard classification tables, such as TLS5+1, TLS8+1, Swiss 10.

Wrong Way Detection System prevents accidents, improves safety

In 2006, within a span of four months, two incidents of drivers entering the 16km-long Westpark Tollway in Houston, Texas resulted in horrific accidents that caused a number of fatalities. As a result, Harris County Toll Road Authority (HCTRA) began investigating technologies that could help detect vehicles entering the tollway in the wrong direction.
