Keolis has begun operating the first section, 30km, of a new automated metro system of Hyderabad, Telangana State, South East India. The project, launched by the Telangana government, will run across a 68km network of three lines and 65 stations in the next few years. Once completed, it is estimated to carry 1.3 million passengers daily aims to reduce road congestion and boost the local economy.

Leister City Council (LCC) has installed UK-based Traffic Technology’s (TT) pedestrian and cycle counters at eight locations around the City. The counters are housed within aesthetic urban posts and will monitor and record the numbers of people walking and cycling as they pass each count site.

R&W Civil Engineering has been awarded a place on the second Call-Off Framework Agreement (COFA-2), potentially valued £100m ($134m), to deliver improvement works on the UK’s M25 and associated motorways. Vodafone has joined forces with UK-based car insurance provider Admiral Insurance (Admiral) to become its first digital telematics partner. It will provide underlying telematics for the Admiral LittleBox offer which delivers driving data to Admiral that can be shared with drivers through an online dashboard. Toyota and Lexus have chosen Parkopedia to provide its in-car parking service on select legacy and new vehicles via the Toyota Entune and Lexus Enform App Suites, in early 2018. Siemens’ Automatic Number Plate Recognition cameras have been deployed to enforce weight restrictions on one of the oldest river crossings on the River Thames at Newbridge, UK. The new traffic enforcement system has been introduced by Trading Standards in Oxfordshire whose officers will monitor the bridge and enforce the limit. Vehicles exceeding 18 tonnes maximum gross weight can be fined up to £1000 ($1,300).

Shortfalls in fuel tax caused by moving to emissions-free vehicles will make current ways of funding road networks unsustainable, according to a joint forum between ITS (UK) Road User Charging Interest Group and ITS Ireland hosted by Aecom, Dublin.
