Trafficware rolls out advanced controller software Scout
Trafficware, part of 378 Cubic Transportation Systems, has upgraded its controller software Scout to provide communities with more smart intersection technology.
The controller database has been expanded to support additional phases, overlaps, rings, channels, detectors and logic statements providing traffic engineers with options to enhance intersection features.
Cubic says the controller firmware addresses the requirements for SynchroGreen adaptive traffic signal control and connected and autonomous vehicle applications.
Halifax to upgrade pedestrian and cycling network
The Government of the Halifax Regional Municipality in Canada is jointly funding an improved pedestrian and cycling network, valued CAN$25 million.
Mike Savage, mayor of Halifax Regional Municipality, says: “This bikeway is a critical part of the municipality’s Integrated Mobility Plan and our goal to move 30% of residents’ local travel to walking, cycling and transit by 2031.”
The Halifax Regional Centre All Ages and Abilities Bikeway Network will include a 30km system of bicycle and pedestrian pathways.
Efkon to deploy traffic system in India
Efkon, a subsidiary of Strabag, is to install a traffic monitoring system covering an area of 85 km² in the city of Aligarh, India.
Thomas Birtel, CEO of Strabag, says: “The introduction of the new transportation system will increase traffic safety. Traffic control, which reduces overall travel time and minimises traffic jams, will also help reduce high traffic.”
The contract covers the installation and operation of 227 camera, 63 pan-tilt zoom cameras and red light surveillance systems with 74 camera
NZ approves Wellington multimodal funding
The NZ Transport Agency has approved NZ$66.2 million in funding for the next phase of the Let’s Get Wellington Moving (LGWM) programme in New Zealand.

The UK’s Department for Transport (DfT) has awarded £2 million to develop a national health-check of road markings.

Virgin Hyperloop One is working with Saudi Arabia’s Economic City Authority (ECA) to conduct a study to build a 35km test and certification track.

Uber is trialling a monthly subscription pass in the US that combines its transportation and food delivery services.

Redvision upgrades VMS1000 control system
Redvision has updated its VMS1000 open-platform control system which it says can be used for traffic management and vehicle counting.
Stephen Lightfoot, technical director at Redvision, says the new object linking feature can be used to configure “a logical flow between cameras on screen” while the field of view direction depiction feature is for “fixed cameras and PTZs on maps”.
“Additionally, over 300 camera brands and 10,000 individual camera models are integrated with the VMS1000,” he adds.
Tritium supplies EV chargers to Drive Energi
Tritium has signed a deal with Box Energi to be the sole supplier for Drive Energi, a nationwide electric vehicle (EV) charging network in the UK.

Toyota to boost safety of Hamo Ride service in Japan
Toyota Motor Corporation is to conduct verification tests using data obtained from Hamo Ride, a car-share service comprised of battery electric vehicles operating in Japan.
The manufacturer says the tests will seek to raise awareness of safe driving among users by establishing a system that rewards safe driving.

Toronto maps out new rules for vehicle-for-hire industry
Toronto City Council has amended its vehicles-for-hire rules to improve safety and accessibility of taxis and private transportation companies including Uber and Lyft.
Toronto mayor John Tory, says:” These new and updated requirements are a necessary step in protecting the residents and visitors of this city. Regardless of where they are going or how far the distance, we want to make sure passengers are able to access the service and get to their destination safely."

China’s Yin Long to produce e-buses in Serbia
Chinese bus manufacturer Yin Long intends to produce electric buses at Ikarbus’ factory in Serbia by the end of the year, according to a report by SeeNews.
Yin Long acquired Ikarbus through its subsidiary Lanzhou Guangdong New Energy Automobile, and intends to hire 200 employees at the factory and use it as a hub to expand its business.
The factory is in the city of Belgrade. Ikarbus produces low-floor and articulated city buses as well as intercity buses.
